I’ve just received 8 rolls of film back from my Northern California trip. It was a tricky trip for shooting in that it wasn’t really a shooting trip! There’s a few frames I am happy with, and I’ll get to scanning those shortly, but for now, here is the first of the images. There was two places on this trip I wanted to definitely check out. The first place, Fern Canyon, was off limits due to a landslide blocking the road, so I couldn’t visit there. The second place was the Monterey Cypress Tree tunnel located somewhere in Point Reyes National Seashore. It’s easy to find though! And is simply sublime as it nears sunset! However, it is one of these places that is very hard to shoot on panoramic format. It really is suited, much like most natural tunnels, to shooting on a long lens & compressing everything. But I’m happy with the way this shot came out. The light was gorgeous.
As tricky as it was to shoot, it’s equally tricky to scan! There’s a lot of detail in the tree branches that meet towards the middle of the frame, and with this low resolution version it’s hard to get that detail across…the actual transparency is super though!!
